'Jason Blaha\'s Fitness Q&A June 15th 2015 Part 1'

'Weekly Fitness Questions Answered by Jason Blaha: 0:12 Hey Jason, you\'ve mentioned in the past that top ranking powerlifters have to be a little crazy to be will to put 600 + lbs on their back and squat it, because if anything goes wrong they could end up in a wheel chair. For someone who is not looking to compete in powerlifting, but wants to be very strong nonetheless, is there a point to where you might want to stop going up in weight on your squat, deadlift, etc. for your own safety? If so, could you give specific numbers? Thanks! 2:03 Safe Jason my mum age 51 wants to get into lifting for general health. she already dose a dance class and swims so has a good cardio base and is not over weight 25-30ish bf%. should I just focus on one lift at a time say squats until she has the wright form before moving on and would it be OK for her to just do squats and dead-lifts seen as she is not trying to get jacked in the upper body. would this create any posture problems or would I need to trow in a press. any advice would be greatly appreciated. 4:02 Some people say that grinding out reps is a skill and should be practiced(massthetics). Others say that you should only do sets and reps that are fast and explosive and you should stop a set when you start grinding(jeremy hamilton). What do you think? 5:53 Can you get big biceps with only straight bar curls or is it that important to do other types of curls (hammer etc)? 7:44 If myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic hypertrophy are myths does this mean that tonnage is the only training factor in building muscle? And if so, does this mean that no hypertophy will come from the \'strength days\' of bodybuilding programs like PHAT and PHUL. 9:44 Hey, Jason! You have mentioned about certain treshhold of volume per workout, that can maximaze muscle hypetrophy and work done after is just calorie burn. Can you explain, how does it work? How much volume does one requere for this purpose in respect to lifting expirience, age etc.? Thanks alot! 13:00 Are isolation movements done within a 5x5 schema as effective as compound exercises done within the same rep range for hypertrophy and strength? Or would it be more effective to stick to higher rep ranges on smaller muscle groups for the same benefits? 15:02 I\'m looking for a more simple life, should I become a ninja and solve crime or move into the woods and live the rest of my life as a bear? Is there another alternative?
