'Newer version (HR) on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2nec4RI Wave BP on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2n6tUoV Replacement bands: http://amzn.to/2mMp1yM www.RiversongTech.com Get 5% off ANYTHING at Sonic Electronix with promo code: JDMCity http://www.SonicElectronix.com This is the Wave BP by Riversong, a stylish fitness band at an affordable price. But, can this budget competitor compete with the dominant forces already in the market? Design: The band itself is made of TPU, and is available in black, blue and purple. One side of the band is removable to reveal a full size USB male plug for charging. Charging only takes about an hour to get from zero to 100 percent. The waterproof OLED screen is just shy of an inch in size. Here you can monitor your heart rate and blood pressure, see the calories you’ve burnt, the steps you’ve taken, and the time, date and battery. Comfort and convenience: The Wave BP is comfortable to wear, thanks to the flexible band and weighing only 19 grams. It doesn’t feel bulky and the display that is both easy to read and responsive. Charging can be a little difficult at first, given the location of the USB plug. But, one you get the hang of it, removing the band becomes second nature. Features: The feature set is pretty wide, offering a Step Counter, Miles traveled, calories burnt, blood pressure, heart rate, hours slept, clock, incoming notifications and remote shutter for the camera. For step goals and GPS tracking for runs and pacing information, you first need to open the app and set it to begin and to end. However, it is a little tedious and forgetting to open the app will prevent you from logging the information. Phone notifications: The Wave BP can screen text messages, incoming phone calls and some social notifications, but that requires the App to be running in the background the whole time. That’s not great for the phone’s battery life. Issues: One of the biggest issues isn’t with the tracking functions, but with the clock itself. The time tends to drift up to 20 minutes off when it hasn’t been synced with the app for a while. If you are using App often, this shouldn\'t be much of a problem. Battery life: The battery life is pretty good, lasting as much as 3 days in our testing. There isn’t any immediate notice when the battery is about to die, so you have to keep an eye on it for when it does. The App: The app is fairly simple and straightforward. You can make an account to always have a record of your data, even if you change phones. Once you enter your gender, height, weight, and customize your preferences like using imperial units rather than metric, you are mostly done. It archives daily, weekly, and monthly stats across all features. Oddly enough, blood pressure readings didn’t save even though it was being used. Final thoughts: It may not be the best choice for intermediate or advanced runners or other people looking to track specific workouts as opposed to daily activities, or someone that doesn’t want to use their phone at all. However, it is a great price for what you get, and we would recommend it to people looking for a basic fitness tracker for general functions and do not want to pay the high prices of other well known brands. If you are new to exercising and fitness, this is a good way to familiarize yourself with the basics of the ever expanding field of fitness tracking.
