'United States Marines Training - How US Marines Are Made  ► The PFT is the standard test that all recruits must pass, and all Marines run once a year to assess their physical conditioning. The test consists of a three-mile run, pull-ups (no time limit) or flexed-arm hang, and crunches (two-minute time limit).  ► A complement to the baseline Physical Fitness Test (PFT), the CFT measures Marines\' ability to perform combat-related tasks under stress. By simulating these events, the Corps is assured its troops are ready to face down any threat at anytime.  PFT OVERVIEW The PFT is the standard test that all recruits must pass, and all Marines run once a year to assess their physical conditioning. PFT PULL-UPS/FLEXED ARM HANG Follow these pull-up workouts to strengthen your arms, core and shoulders. Follow these workouts consistently to improve your score in the Marine Corps PFT.  PFT CRUNCHES Follow this workout to strengthen your core and prepare for the crunches portion of the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Do this program consistently with the pull-up workout to see fast and effective improvement in your PFT score.  PFT TIMED RUN Prepare for the Timed Run portion of the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Male recruits and Marines must complete the three-mile run in 28 minutes or less. Female recruits and Marines must complete the three-mile run in 31 minutes or less.  CFT OVERVIEW A complement to the baseline Physical Fitness Test (PFT), the CFT measures Marines\' ability to perform combat-related tasks under stress. CFT MOVEMENT TO CONTACT Part of the Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test (CFT), this timed, 880-yard course tests Marines\' endurance, mobility, and conditioning under simulated combat stress.  CFT AMMUNITION LIFT As part of the Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test (CFT), this 30-pound ammo overhead lift tests Marines\' functional strength under stress. Follow these exercises to improve your fitness—and improve your CFT score.  CFT MANEUVER UNDER FIRE This 300-yard shuttle run portion of the Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test (CFT) simulates combat-related tasks including crawls, carries, ammunition resupply, grenade throwing and agility running.
